Story & Inspiration
The inspiration for this work comes from the culture of large designer toy collectibles. Many people buy oversized toys to place in their homes, sometimes even dressing them up with clothes or accessories. I find this behavior fascinating, so I designed a plush night light with the same collectible toy aesthetic.
Target Users
The target users are toy collectors and trend-conscious individuals who are passionate about designer toys and collectible culture, and who enjoy integrating playful, fashion-inspired objects into their living spaces.
Problems Solved & User Experience
The night light provides soft illumination, improving nighttime ambiance.
The monster design and plush texture offer a sense of companionship and comfort.
Its unique design makes it both a decorative and collectible object.
Users will feel a playful, soothing, and fashionable atmosphere when using it.
Parts & Materials
- Head & Body： Plush long-pile fabric with cotton stuffing
- Structural Support：wire frame inside for added stability
- Lampshade (Neck Extension)： Blue mesh fabric
New Attempts
This was my first attempt at making a hemispherical form with fabric, and experimenting with how fabric could create different shapes and volumes.
Challenges
The main challenges I faced were:
- How to create stable volumes and shapes using fabric.
- How to connect different parts together effectively.
- How to make the night light stand upright without collapsing.
If I Had More Time
- I would add arms and legs to the monster, making it look more like a complete toy figure.
- I would further improve structural stability and refine fabrication details.
