FOR THOSE WHO GET THE WINTER BLUES , A DAWN SIMULATOR THAT YOU HUG/SLEEP WITH IN YOUR BED… IN THE MORNING IT SLOWLY GETS BRIGHTER OVER THE COURSE OF 1-2 HOURS TO SIMULATE THE SUNRISE TO HELP YOU WAKE UP AND FIGHT WINTER DOLDRUMS.
SUNLAMPS ALSO EXIST FOR THOSE WITH MORE SERIOUS SEASONAL AFFECTIVE DISORDER. YOU SIT IN FRONT OF THIS LAMP FOR 30-40MIN A DAY TO STAVE OFF DEPRESSION. CAN THIS BEAR HELP WITH THIS TOO? IT WOULD NEED TO EMIT 5,000-10,000 LUX OF LIGHT SO THAT MIGHT BE DIFFICULT.

Idea 1: Peak Frean Cookies
These are cookies I used to have as a kid. I think they’re an English/Canadian thing. They have a cream center and a fruit jelly in the middle which was so sweet! I imagine the plush toy twisting apart to reveal the center and also lighting up in the center of the fruit jelly just like sugar crystals.
Idea 2: Grains of Rice
This relates to my family’s history as rice farmers in the Philippines. If you look closely at a grain of rice, the ends are translucent and the center is opaque. I’d love to see if I can create this quality in a plush toy. Also a bushel of rice would be nice (a rhyme).
Idea 3: A Top Knot
I’m known for my top knot that I wear a lot and sometimes I get made fun of because of it. This top knot is one that anyone can wear (I imagine some sort of velcro attachment to make it a headpiece). Also, the top knot would light up!
1. COMB JELLY
Growing up in Japan, Jellyfish and Comb jelly were something really familiar. In a school play, I was assigned to play the role – jellyfish. So the only thing I had to do in that play was to wear a jellyfish leg costume and move like a jellyfish. But there is something really fascinating about Bomb jelly. They are oval-shaped animals with eight rows of tiny comblike plates that shines under light.
2. SOFT DOG POOP
I’m fascinated by the dog poop in general… then I thought what if it was s soft stuffed poop that lights up at night? Would that make people stop for a second and think about the dog waste?
3. PINK FAT SUIT for BARBIE
I’m totally excited about this idea!!! In today’s society, children’s toys are really about the “look.” They even have a LED dress for barbie…. But the reality is that the obesity is becoming more serious than ever before. So! I want to make a fat suit that will light up for barbie to comment or start a conversation around it.
Here are my 3 sketches. I had thought at first about making a stuffed animal type thing for my daughter but thats too obvious.
I then thought about how much Ive wanted to integrate my graffiti art and lighting. Something Ive thought about for many years. So I began with a spray paint can and ended up moving towards my ‘throw up”
Design education time, Graffiti people have a tag, which is your name simply written. There is a throw up which tends to be a 2 letter representation of your tag.Called a throw up or a “throwie” because it is intended to be thrown up on a wall fast for obvious reasons.
In my case my tag since 1992 has been ATOM and in about 1996 I started doing AT throw ups. A piece is a full multi colored letter form usually all the letters of your tag in full 3D. So I started with my AT which has been my personal logo for a long time. Im envisioning the traditional silver fill with a black outline. Different writers use a different color to outer outline they’re throw ups, I like yellow.
Im hoping to find a silver furry fabric that could have the LED’s shining through. I showed a photo of a stuffed animal with red piping on it. This is what I was thinking would be the silver furry fill in color with black piping to outline the letters and then bright yellow fabric to be the sides or the 3D.
Ive included the sketches and some graffiti to clarify the design education.
