Homework – Innovative Switch Final

Create a blog post for your final switch prototype including description, final photos and process photos to the course blog by 8pm this Wednesday.

The final Arduino prototype does not need to: fit inside your model, be soldered or be miniaturised.

The critique this Thursday will focus on the interaction between you and your switch. So focus your efforts on refining this!

Octavio the Octopus

This is Octavio.

dsc_0020_rtw

He is a young octopus, just trying to figure out his place in the big blue sea.

He has eight tentacles. He uses them to move around, interact with his environment, and wave hello.

When it gets dark, his bioluminescent spots make him fun to be around. Here he is with a jellyfish, a recent acquaintance and new friend.

He is also very soft. So, even though he does not think of himself as a pillow, he will sometimes let you use him as one—provided you ask politely.

Thanks Octavio! And good night, Octavio.

Now, for some BONUS *~*MaKiNg PiCs*~*

the pattern (internal lines were for measuring in Illustrator):

Bed Time

I hate waking up in the middle of the night and not been able to see anything. Thats why i created a pillow that lights up when you lift your head!

PS: i thought we didn’t have to post this! That we were going to work on it in class.

Sorry I am late!

My Fluffy Pink Jellyfish

First step was sewing a dome out of cotton t-shirt material for the top + felt for the base. And after ensuring that it could be stuffed properly without breaking seams, it was time to fill in LEDs to make the jellyfish glow.

Below is the light board layout I decided to illuminate through the bottom.

img_3909

Confirming that the soldering is correct and the solder connections do not break when putting into the body.

img_3908

Finished soldering everything!

img_3912

Adding the LED and stuffing around the light board. I noticed that there is no light coming through the top, just the bottom. So I decided to add additional light above the light board. Using same strip white LEDs, I added it into the stuffing loosely.

Below is after adding the light above the board to create glow through the bottom and top at same time.

And finally, adding on some tentacles.

Looking forward to the final project, I few modifications I’d like to make:

  • Make tentacles have some glow
  • Use RGB light source to control and fluctuate color
  • Investigate adding a fan to make tentacles move while floating
  • Investigate alternate top material (currently t-shirt cotton) – evaluate all felt body.

Sadness

Hello,

My name is Sadness. My nose is an odd shape. I live alone, under a tree. Although my nose looks weird, I can eat lots of ants. But ants are cool so I feel bad. And now I’m more sad.

Ok – goodbye!

Hi ! I am Sherlock, the Snowman

Once upon a time, there was a family on the North Pole. The family had 2 sweet kids!

They made a snowman one day and named him Martin.

The snowman was so…. happy that he had such lovely kids playing with him.

One day, a thief Broke-in the house and stole a lot of precious items along with the kids’ x’mas gifts!

The kids were very sad and dint come to play with the snowman for a lot of days. He started worrying about them.

So, he decided to find the thief himself. The thief came once again , but this time Martin was ready for him. he followed the thief and the thief dint have the slightest of idea, because the snowman dint leave and footprints, so he dint know that h was being followed!

The snowman caught the thief, summoned him in front of the family, made him return all the stolen goods. the children named him ‘SHERLOCK’

Now the children are Sherlock are back having fun!

Plushie and the funeral

The @. The silent guardian of the internet, we could not do anything without it. It also likes colours so different ones for sewing it.

Also, there was a casualty while working with the LEDs, we had to hold a funeral. I did not understand what the priest in blue was saying, though.
