Story
I am making a plush night light for my daughter. She’s almost three and loves light up toys. If my plush toy gets invited into her inner circle of stuffed animals that she sleeps with, I will have succeeded as a father.
My daughter also loves pickles and I think it would be funny to give her a plush pickle with light up eyes. We will probably call it something super creative like “Pickle Guy” or something <eyeroll>.
Think Pickle Rick:

Early Brainstorm Sketches
Disregard the below, I decided to take it in a different direction.
I’m going to decide between a Moon, a Star, and a Mushroom. Please see early brainstorm sketches below along with circuit diagrams:

Nice brainstorm. Might I suggest that to achieve maximum snugglitude, you should consider a more cuddly fabric than felt. The minky we used in class might be a better choice, for example.
I’d like to pull more on the thread of your form, and what’s motivating it. Is there a fun story or experience you share with your daughter that could inform the shape? Her favorite animal, color, place, character, food? Moon and star are fine but a little boring, unless there are more meaningful details like the significance of the color etc.
About your circuit, the sketches you made show the LEDs in series, when they should be in parallel. Please refer to this sample circuit from the week 2 canvas/homework and revise yours: https://www.tinkercad.com/things/fwj573eA2ow
I like your idea of the pickle, it’s kind of funny but it also scares me! It reminds me of “Pickle Rick” from “Rick and Morty” duh. It also reminds me of mutated vegetables or some sick science experience, which I don’t know if it’s cool or scary😦. Regarding photographing your work, you can photograph it with something from “Rick and Morty” or you can photograph it in a grocey store with all of the pickles 🥒.
Hey Ben! I love your blog post. I really hope that your night light plush makes it into her inner circle. I like the idea of doing a pickle if that’s something both you and your daughter love. I think that’s also a pretty feasible design. I would definitely recommend photographing it with your daughter holding it. I know you love to share photos so I’m sure you would be comfortable sharing with the class but totally your call. Good luck with with your pickle plush!
It’s definitely a Trader Joe’s X Rick and Morty piece tho:) Personally love the idea that you put a Rick’s face on a pickle hahaha. I just want to see how it goes and how you make it real like how you draw it(the green pickle). The color and how you saw it is probably a challenge but I looking forward so much to see this pickle Rick:)
