Wini’s Plush Night Light Proposal

My character is a Japanese lucky cat from the anime show Dandadan. This cat has a very interesting backstory: a yokai named Turbo Granny is trapped inside of it.

I’ve created three different poses for Turbo Granny Cat, with the LEDs in various locations.

I’ve also run some tests to see how different fabrics affect the lighting.

Cotton

White Cotton

Yellow Cotton

Tissu

Sherpa

Felt

I’ve decided to use Sherpa for Turbo Granny cat’s hair and felt for the decorations, including the neck bell, collar, and gold coin.

Here is the test prototype for the glowing money coin.

  1. Great brainstorm, Wini! and I’m so glad you got a chance to test out fabrics already, that’s awesome. Keep in mind that if you want to use multiple color LEDs in the same circuit, they will probably require different resistors, and the precision of the resistor values will matter a bit more. for instance a white led might have a typical forward voltage of 3V, and a yellow LED is likely to have a lower forward voltage, like 2.2V. so the white LED wants a smaller resistor than the yellow one, all other variables being unchanged. try it first with two 100-ohm resistors, then if you notice that one of the colors is way brighter or dimmer than the other one, adjust your resistors accordingly. There are more incremental values of resistors in the VFL electronics cabinet.

  2. Hi Wini! I love this idea because lucky cats are so mesmerizing to me. I also LOVE the scale you are doing. It is very ambitious and I think it will be worth it, since these figurines are usually quite small. This choice of size will make it much more visually interesting. I think this could be challenging, but that you are very capable and I am excited to see the end result! Do you plan to draw the details?

  3. Hey Wini! I honestly really like all of your ideas and how you’ve created such a beautiful and fun story around it! I really liked the first and second designs! Even the third is great, I honestly can’t pick my favorite because these are all so playful and cute! I also really liked the light diffusion in felt and feel that it could be a great option for your plush nightlight! The soft diffusion would also help bring out the colors a lot! All the best, these are all great ideas!!

  4. Hi Wini this is great. What a cute idea. I wonder if you could achieve the desired yellow by using a yellow cotton fabric for the gold money coin. I love the idea of felt for the accessories. Are you planning to use all white? Different colors may be really fun here!
