Plush NightLlight Concept Sketches (Oscar de la Hera Gomez)

After brainstorming a series of ideas from the Santiago Bernabeu, through to Lightsabers and finally Atlas. I decided upon the following three ideas: 070, España and a Real Madrid Nightlight. Please note that all the night lights include a LCD clock display.

070 – The area code of The Hague (Netherlands) is a combination of digits that has always meant a lot to me and thus I designed this nightlight to have these three numbers in the three colours that represent the (sexiest) away kit of the dutch national team – Orange and Black – two colours that fit the area code nicely. To this I would laser cut delasign in an designed font as well as Den Haag as well as a series of names around the base, as a reminder of my roots. Finally, the design would die down as the sun rises and would include an on/off switch (maintained press) that would allow it to turn on as well as to change LED mode (single press).

España – Inspired by the original logo by Joan Miro would be a nightlight that would be mounted on a wooden base, which would have the same features described above. The discs, arc and star would be made out of acrylic/plexiglass and would be covered in a fabric to make it soft as well as to resemble the colour demonstrated in the images. These colours would represent Spain and the base would represent the cities that mean the most to me. Finally, as demonstrated in the image, these discs, arcs and star would be mounted on poles that would allow the nightlight to rotate, causing a ‘Gyro-scopic’ style motion.

Real Madrid Nightlight – The Real Madrid nightlight is inspired by a investment banking ‘tombstone’ and the logo that sits on the Santiago Bernabeu (the front of the stadium). This ‘tombstone’ would be made of glass/acrylic and sit onto of a prism that would cause the light to flash out in all directions. The Real Madrid logo, the number 11 as well as a series of features would be engraved onto the ‘tombstone’ using laser cutting and would sit on a plastic base that would be covered in a fabric. The nightlight would carry the same features described in the above two, with the difference that the tap of the on switch would cause the LEDs to flash from one side to another and would include a custom jingle that could be heard when pressing a button found on the base of the nightlight.

I look forward to making one of these !

Concept ‘sketches’

My first ideation page/nightlight idea draws inspiration from Final Fantasy VII [undoubtedly one of the best video games OF ALL TIME]. The main character’s final weapon is called ultima weapon, and features a very white blade. I want to create a plush toy where the blade is lit by white/blue LEDs. I think I’ll need to reexamine the configuration of the sword handle since it seems a bit too complicated right now [I’m not the best sewer].

I did see something at Maker Faire today that inspired me. Foxonix produces a small microcontroller for inserting sound into projects. I would like to configure this plush toy so that when someone swings it, the victory theme from Final Fantasy plays [motion sensing + foxonix].image

Idea number two is the least creative I think, but on the other hand is probably the most feasible. I have a naga tattooed on my chest, so I thought that it would be fun to create a plush toy that looked like my tattoo. The head/tail would light up, as would some of the scales along the length of the body.image

My final idea is to recreate the needler from Halo. Formal issues aside [I was thinking that I could use cardboard/chipboard to define each of the distinct shapes of the weapon], I’d like to have each needle be lit up by purple leds. I could then have a small arduino board in there that is connected to a touch sensor/button so that each time the trigger is pressed, a needle dims [I’d like to insert sound here as well, possibly with the Foxonix board]. When all the needles are dimmed, the next button press would “reload” the gun visually and audibly. image[edit]: I realized that the Needler doesn’t even need a trigger as shown above. It could function like a sock puppet:

Adam Fujitas plush toy sketches and background.

Here are my 3 sketches. I had thought at first about making a stuffed animal type thing for my daughter but thats too obvious.

I then thought about how much Ive wanted to integrate my graffiti art and lighting. Something Ive thought about for many years. So I began with a spray paint can and ended up moving towards my ‘throw up”

Design education time, Graffiti people have a tag, which is your name simply written. There is a throw up which tends to be a 2 letter representation of your tag.Called a throw up or a “throwie” because it is intended to be thrown up on a wall fast for obvious reasons.

In my case my tag since 1992 has been ATOM and in about 1996 I started doing AT throw ups. A piece is a full multi colored letter form usually all the letters of your tag in full 3D. So I started with my AT which has been my personal logo for a long time. Im envisioning the traditional silver fill with a black outline. Different writers use a different color to outer outline they’re throw ups, I like yellow.

Im hoping to find a silver furry fabric that could have the LED’s shining through. I showed a photo of a stuffed animal with red piping on it. This is what I was thinking would be the silver furry fill in color with black piping to outline the letters and then bright yellow fabric to be the sides or the 3D.

Ive included the sketches and some graffiti to clarify the design education.
