This plush night light is a series of love letters to my unborn nephew.
The intention is for the toy to change as he grows. No matter how old he gets this “toy” stays with him.
So each year on his birthday he removes a layer of fabric revealing the current year’s positive affirmation or/ life lesson I want to “pass down to him”
The heart shaped pillow will have 18 layers of fabric celebrating the first 18 years of his life.
Examples of love notes for the first 3 birthdays❤️ ⬇️

Hey Ta-Shea, this is such a cute idea! How does the light interact with these many layers of fabric? I don’t want you to tack them on the outside, so think about how the light will shine through. Is there any clue on the plushie to see how many layers are yet to come? maybe a spot like that could help provide a logical place to add light. Or maybe different lights are revealed at different stages? How is each layer meant to be removed?
Some artists that come to mind when I think about layering like this (look them up for some inspo):
-Leslie Wayne, painter
-Jen Stark, paper art
This assignment was posted late, please don’t make it a habit.
I like ur sweet sweet design for ur naphew, wether the heart shape and the the letter on it is sooo lovely. I think it world be better if there is a zipper on each layer. Then we can reuse the layer to make a new heart pillow!!!
Hi Tashea!
What a beautiful idea.
Jen Stark is a really great suggestion from Becky, she’s very cool. This also reminds me a little bit of Russian nesting dolls, which is very fun.
To make this more feasible you might consider making the toy for only the first 7 years — this would mean less layers to contend with, which I foresee being challenging given that the LED light has to pass through. You could always upgrade with a new toy after age 7 🙂
Maybe you could use a very sheer fabric?
I hope you can shoot this in your sister’s nursery, it would be nice to see it in the space its intended to live for the first few years!
Hi Ta-shea, this is sooo cute! since it’s for a baby, it’s important to consider how to attach the letters to the fabric. If they’re sewn or glued on, they might come off over time, which could be accidentally swallowed. Painting the letters on might be a better option—just make sure to use paint that ‘s safe and doesn’t fade easily.
