Description of my night light’s story and the target user:
My design inspiration comes from the fact that many children are afraid of the dark when they sleep at night and need a small night light. The fabric used is from one of my favorite old clothes, but it had fruit stains that couldn’t be washed off, so I repurposed it. The overall design was inspired by children getting their clothes dirty and blushing when faced with scolding.
For version 1 materials:
Base: Plywood
Cloth stand: iron wire or wood stick, heat shrink tube (change the color and hide the wire)
Cloth hanger: MDF (use laser cutting)
The boy model: fabric, iron wire (as support), old clothes
Clothes: fabric

update:
I’m going to use Version 2 but without base, gonna use more soft materials and no cloth stand anymore. The boy’s materials is orange soft fabric:
One more resistor in the circuit.

Hey Housen, great work here!
it looks like you are proposing to use a lot of hard materials, and I’d like to steer you more towards using PRIMARILY SOFT materials. so if you want to make a stiff base and armature support for your lil’ dude, or connect two disparate soft elements such as the boy and the shirt he’s holding, that’s fine, but the fabric (and light diffused by it) should really be the star of the show.
For your circuit, be sure to use one resistor per LED. In theory it’s ok to use one resistor for two LEDs as you have shown, but in the long run it’s not good practice and will eventually kill one of the LEDs. Here’s an article with more info: https://electronics.stackexchange.com/questions/22291/why-exactly-cant-a-single-resistor-be-used-for-many-parallel-leds
Haosen, such a cool concept! My daughter definitely does not love the dark: we have a night light and leave the door open for her while she sleeps. I wonder what psychological impact a “guilty” toy would have on a child that spends a lot of time with it. Would they start to adopt the guilty mannerism or think they are doing something wrong? On the other hand, Amelia is very bossy so she would probably enjoy having a toy that blushes when she tells it what to do. In your sketch, you are using a yellow light, I think a red light would read more as a blush.
Thanks for the suggestions :)))) The guilty motion thing really makes sense. I’m going to change concept to a little boy try to choose cute shirt to wear at his wonderful morning. And the red led is very helpful as well:)))
Thank youuuu:))). I’m going to do one light shirt cuz i’m really short in time. lol
Thank you Gudrun:)))) The night stand suggestion is really amazing!!
Hi Haosen! I think your idea is really creative and I love that you are using the material of a shirt that you stained so that it doesn’t go to waste. I agree with Becky I think it makes sense to make the plush the main part and not do any hard bases or stands. I also really like that you are doing three lights that go in different directions. I know that you can do it but maybe if you are short on time to have him hold one shirt instead of two. Good luck! 🙂
Hi Haosen I love your idea!!! I’m really exicted to see the outcome. I would probably do red lights for the blushing and another color for the shirts. I think it would be cool to photograph it on a nightstand or with a child looking at the night light. ❤️
