sophia’s final project proposal

here are my initial sketches of my three ideas!

  1. Great brainstorm and sketches, Sophia! I can’t choose for you but I can say you’re on the right track with defining the behavior you are looking to generate. More questions and suggestions per idea below.
    1. Jumbo pill lamp
Are the meds actually inside the lamp? If so, Investigate what already exists in this space. For instance https://www.tiktok.com/@medispin/video/7315104900663348510

Oh, I see now that those small dots in your sketch are probably pixels. That’s fine too.

As a person who often forgets to take my night meds, the idea that the behavior is connected with turning off the light seems like a compelling motivator.

To detect the position of the flap, you could use two magnetic switches and one magnet on the flap (maybe clunkier than you want, but bonus is that you can use the magnet to hold the flap up at the same time. Or you can use a limit switch (https://www.amazon.com/MXRS-Hinge-Momentary-Button-Switch/dp/B07MW2RPJY/) or tactile button (like you have or https://www.adafruit.com/product/367) right at the hinge.

    2. plant watering reminder lamp
You could potentially tie the lamp output to a moisture sensor input from your plant. https://www.adafruit.com/product/4026
Also ok to encourage to water on a schedule!
Why is it not also a real plant, or vessel for a real plant? Or else, if it is in the shape of a plant, why does it sit on the desk instead of mount on the wall? I’m looking for the lamp theme to connect better with the plant theme, or double down on itself. In your sketch, I don’t feel like the form and the function are related in a logical or satisfying way yet.

    3. high five/easy button interactive lamp
This one is very feasible with the time we have. I’d execute it using one of these sound boards: https://www.adafruit.com/product/2210 and control it and or just the lights with your arduino. consider designing the project around a satisfying button such as https://www.adafruit.com/search?q=massive%20arcade%20button or designing your own button.
