Nymph’s Final Project-Blooming

Introducing a unique interactive device that blends Arduino microphone sound sensors and touch-sensitive design. It is shaped like a dandelion, users can blow gently, triggering a mesmerizing interplay of sound and visuals on the connected computer’s Touch Designer display. This interactive creation serves as a personalized stress-relief mechanism and a whimsical platform for making wishes, offering individuals a delightful escape and moments of tranquility in their daily lives.

Because this is a final project, I really want to undertake something challenging. Due to my strong interest in dynamic visual effects, I’ve decided to learn TouchDesigner and attempt to integrate it with Arduino to create some interesting interactions.

Materials Used:

  1. Adafruit Metro 328 with Headers – ATmega328
  2.  Sound Microphone Sensor
  3. White LED Diode Light
  4. Cotton – Make dandelions
  5.  Pearl Beads
  6. Wire 2m- dandelion stem
  7. Clear Fillable Ornaments Ball 50mm
  8. Wood Board 11mm thick
  9. Silver Metallic Paper A3
  10.  Clear Colorless Acrylic Round Tube
  11. Laptop

Storytelling & Video Demo

Development

For the future development of this project, I believe there are several aspects to explore. Firstly, the exploration of more portable sensors and display devices could be considered. Secondly, there is room for optimizing the visual effects in TouchDesigner, combining with more user-centric research, to create transformations that truly help people relax, soothe their moods, and alleviate stress. The ultimate goal is to transform this project into an artistic therapeutic device, which was the initial inspiration I had on this project.

Closing Remarks: This project has been quite challenging for me, but in the process of exploration, I’ve also discovered a lot of new joys. A special thanks to those who have helped me, especially to Becky, Vince, Elaine, and Haley. Every time in this course, I’ve learned new things, used new tools, and expressed a different aspect of myself, which is truly precious to me.

Nymph’s Final Project Proposal

Idea 1

Through the connection of Arduino LEDs and Arduino sensor, when people blow on the product, the light will go out!

Idea 2

This is a design that connects physical and digital products. Through the interaction of the LEDs and the Arduino sensor, the object on the screen can be moved or produce unexpected changes.

Designed to create an atmosphere and enhance the home experience!

Idea 3

This design achieves the roller coaster effect by changing the color of the Arduino Neo Pixel strips!!!

Nymph’s Warm Heart of Wednesday

Final Work

I was hooked on the character after watching Wednesday. She is strange and unique, although she has a cold appearance, she has a hot heart. That’s also the reason why I designed the costume this time.

Process

Model Making
3D Printing
Soldering
Finish the Circuit
Assembling

Shopping List

  • 1. Neo Pixel Rings
  • 2. Wires
  • 3. Neo Pixel Stripes
  • 4. PETG Material (Thanks Jiaqi)
  • 5. Halloween dress!!!
  • 6. Acrylic pigment (Thanks Jin & Haley)

More Works

Yeahhh

I had a great time during making and playing!!

Happy Halloween!!

Nymph’s Halloween Process

I will use 3D printing to make the main heart part and put the red neo-pixel ring in the middle. The neo-pixel strip is wrapped in a plastic tube to mimic the appearance of blood vessels.

Process

Use Rhino to build the model
Trying to use neopixel ring to manage the color

To Do List

  1. Finish model making, use 3D printer to print.
  2. Testing the circuit.
  3. Make the decoration of the comstume.

Nymph’s Halloween Proposal

I’ll continue the second idea to go further!

To explore more shapes and connections, I used AI tools to help me find out the scenario. Here’s the detail.

Material

  1. 3D Print: Plastic/ Resin for main body part.
  2. Release buckles: For connections.
  3. Silicone Tube: Bionic blood vessel.
  4. Fabric: Other parts to make it wearable.

Arduino Support

  1. Neo Pixel Ring (red light)
  2. Leds stripe light

Nymph’s Plush Night Light

Beddy-Bye

Do you often get up at night?

Do you occasionally find yourself fumbling around in the middle of the night and still can’t find what you’re looking for?

This is a night light that can help you use at night and is convenient and portable.

You can bend it or hang it anywhere to help you use it.
