Will C. Lentz

Hello, Everybody!413322_2109191122390_719747228_o

I’m a maker with a background in a variety of materials including steel, wood, and ceramics. I’m originally from central Arkansas, but most recently moved to Brooklyn from a small craft school in the Blue Ridge Mountains in Western North Carolina. Experimenting with new materials and processes is one of my favorite things.  I also really enjoy good food and good tea.  Before a recent injury, you’d likely find me playing Ultimate when I wasn’t working, eating, or sleeping.  I’m working on that and I’ll be on the field again soon!

Hey all!

My name is Arjun Kalyanpur and I come from just across the river in Edison, New Jersey. I got my BS in Engineering from Harvey Mudd College in California before attending Duke University to get my MS in Biomedical Engineering and Master of Engineering Management degrees. From there, I moved back to NJ, where I did product development and packaging for cosmetics company La Prairie Switzerland over the last 2.5 years. You can check out some of my work at http://ArjunAKalyanpur.prosite.com.

One of my main reasons for choosing SVA was Making Studio, where we get to combine the physical and digital into our own connected, smart objects. In my free time, I enjoy reading, swimming, running, travel, photography, and film.

Can’t wait to get started and break my computer while coding!

And that is me with long hair, but now I have short hair! I am so excited to take this class and I am fond of the sensors! In my previous works my partner made kits of measuring the status of plants and I found that’s cool, so I want to try things that are cooler!

My bobby is to make Sci-Fi things, Although I am no good at math, I will to try and take effort for the cool things!

Doug Fertig

Hello, I am Doug!

I grew up in New Jersey and studied Fine Arts and Ceramics at Alfred University and SUNY New Paltz.  After school I moved to NYC and have worked as a ceramic artist and teacher.  I like to cook, but I enjoy eating more.  I used to have quite the sweet tooth, however a less than favorable dental history has made me gravitate towards the savory foods.

Hello, World! It’s me, Michael Kenney 🙂

Whaaat?!? I love cheese, but I hate wine. Beer is my thing, if I’m thirsty. Recently I left my abundantly green homeland of Cascadia to vision-quest my way through the concrete jungle of Manhattan. I’m glad to be here with lots of cool new peeps and learning some bad new skills.

Class Introduction – Josh Corn

Hello everyone,

My name is Josh Corn and I am super excited for this making studio. I grew up in Sarasota, FL and went to school in Philadelphia. My background is in architecture and theatre design and I worked as an architectural consultant in Chicago for about 3 years. Most recently, I started a publication and traveled for a year collecting and producing online stories. My hobbies used to include woodcarving, rock climbing and paragliding but now that I am in the city I am trying to just ride my bike as much as possible. Check out my instagram at joshcorn2!

Class Introduction: Alexa

Hi guys! I’m Alexa. This is what I look like:

Note the semi-permanent glasses glare and dopey grin. Tidy ascot optional.

I am a stress cleaner, ugly knitter, and hobby cook, and spend a few weekends every summer dressing up like it’s 1863 and getting drunk with old Irish guys. We call it Civil War reenacting. I graduated from the first Product Design class at Drexel University, and I’ve also taught high school science, been a librarian, and sold fortune readings and oxygen bar tickets at the New Jersey boardwalk.

My whole life story is an episode of “Well, I Guess I Never Tried It Before,” and I’m excited to learn some things I’ve never tried before in Making Lab!

Greetings Class and Becky!

I am an east coast native currently living in Brooklyn. I studied architecture as an undergrad at Barnard College here in NYC and having been working in the field for the last 15 years. I spent years (and years and years) thinking about going back to grad school and am excited to be finally doing it with you all.

I love the challenge of designing small spaces so if you need help getting everything to fit efficiently in a teeny-tiny apartment, let me know! The smaller the better!

Speaking of small, I have a mini dachshund named Lulu that I hope will  get to visit the studio soon.
