Tests and switch

Lots of experimenting with Arduino!

My switch was heavily inspired by Berk’s “awkward plush night light” but deals with a different yet still very awkward scenario. I designed this switch to light up an LED every time the toilet seat is down. This way I know that the bathroom is going to be used for an extended period of time. Also I know not to open the door since I’ve discovered my suite mate refuses to lock it.

Enjoy! 🙂

This assignment was very difficult for me because I had a hard time sewing the circuit board to the cardboard and a result my wire connection kept failing.  So I wasn’t sure if I was doing it correctly.

What I end up doing was changing the #define MOVE_THRESHOLD  to “4” making the accelerometer more sensitive so when I shake the board the light flash very quick

Finally me :)

Hi everyone I am Berk (pronounced as Bérk or Bærk).

berk_profile

I’m from Ankara, Turkey, Middle East Technical University department of Industrial Design which I graduated last June.  Although I had experienced being an exchange student in Germany, moving in to New York is a big change in my life. I wanted to come here to meet creatives and to work and produce with them.  Alongside to my industrial design background I have a strong passion for acting as well.. Here are some pictures of my scenes.

I went to East Carolina University  where I studied Jewelery and Metalsmithing. While there I met many amazing people and lived in Italy for a while, it changed my life and shaped the way I think about food.  After graduating I moved to NYC where I got a job working with Pamela Love on her design team.  I have worked there for two years and plan to remain working there during this first semester.

On top of working for Pam I also make a line of men’s jewelery deemed Heath Wagoner NY.  I sell my work on Pam’s website and my own website.  Below is a picture of some of my work that I made recently.

I look forward to getting to know all you and making alongside you all.  I think that cooking your meals and interacting with your food is very important to personal identity, so feel free to cook with me.  I like beards and consider myself to be a kale enthusiast.

May Sun

Hi, my name is May (Shuchang) Sun and I’ve come to SVA from Beijing, China where I studied industrial design at The China Central Academy of Fine Art.

p_large_fB2x_67b900000e6f1261

I am interested in all kinds of design applications, some of which respond to social needs that I experienced in China, such as designing children’s  playgrounds that work in the limited space of the city.  Other inspiration for my work comes from fashion, and the ways we choose to present ourselves to one another.  This is exciting to me because it is a chance to study style, gender, and relationships together.

Don't lie to beauty7

I am very excited to be at SVA to have the chance to make new friendships and explore new ideas together!

Autosave-File vom d-lab2/3 der AgfaPhoto GmbH

Hey there! I’m Lucy.  I grew up in Vermont but I have called NYC my home for over ten years. During this time I have worked in many different fields, from hospitality to event planning, fashion to furniture design. To balance out the intensity of New York, I try to sneak away as often as possible. The photo above is from an adventure in Galicia.

Up to this point, I have worked mostly with metal, wood and textiles so I am really excited to delve into electronics and technology. Below are a few images of my personal work. You can see more at: Lucy Knops

My name is Andrés Iglesias.

I was born in the small country of El Salvador. I’ve lived a life of constant travel and change; moving from one corner of Latin America to the next every other year.  I studied industrial design in Boston where I also worked as a footwear designer for a year after graduating.

On my free time I enjoy designing shoes inspired by movies. Here is an example of one:

I love a good cup of espresso, cooking, and obviously Wes Anderson movies (if you didn’t get that from the boot).

Lusha Huang

DSC_1450_副本

My name is Lusha Huang, I graduated from Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts with a BFA in Industrial design this year. I come from Guangzhou, a metropolitan city, which is near to Hongkong,China.

2707401_191439420000_2My hometown night view

I started learning painting since I was little, then I receive formal art education at the middle school affiliated to Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts which have collected some of my works in its gallery. And I have been pursuing both beauty and depth in all of my works.I like my major very much, and it is my intention to add the elements of happiness and warmness to people’s life through my works

I believe as a product-design student, it is very important to expand my own horizon. In fact I was invited to a lot of countries like Singapore, Janpan,  Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Germany, Netherland and the US to exchange ideas about design.  And their designs all have their own cultural and regional characteristic.

Nowadays more and more Chinese product-designers are trying to change the situation that products are not just simply “MADE in china”, but actually “CREATED in China”. And I have my own insight about this, about how to combine cultural element with products. As a Chinese, I have been deeply influenced by the local culture, and that’s why a lot of Chinese cultural elements could be seen in my portfolio.

This is a preview of my work as below,

The name is Lance Green.

I’m a recent graduate from the University of Texas at Austin with a BFA in Design. Before moving to New York City I had lived in Texas my entire life, growing up in a town of of 15k people, then moving to Austin (800k) and to New York (8.25m). I’ve always been known as a handyman and consider myself a natural-born problem solver; my mind is constantly thinking of how to improve / better anything I come into contact with.

Relevant interests include a large array of design(ing)—I’ve worked with and studied conceptual and graphic design, model making, typography, letterpress printing and woodworking. A recent project I worked on was designing / producing prosthetic limbs for a meningitis survivor, dancer, and double amputee to perform in.
